Scope and Importance: 

Stem cells have exceptional regenerative capabilities and so offer new possibilities for treating diseases such as diabetes, and heart disease. Though, much work remains to be done in the clinic and the laboratory to understand how to use these cells for cell based treatments to treat disease, which is also known as regenerative or reparative medicine. Current research on stem cells provides some of the robust indications that human embryonic stem cell derived neurons, which can be useful to treat a different types of neurological disorders such as Epilepsy , Parkinson’s disease, ALS and stroke. Stem cells can fully integrate and behave like consistent neurons when transplanted into the brain. Scientists at Northwestern University have made consignments of human neurons (brain cells) using embryonic stem cells which are expected to prove valuable in discovering drugs that slow the development of Alzheimer’s disease. Also, stem cells are being proved to be useful in treating many other disorders like Blindness, Blood disorders, Cancer, Hearing disabilities, Infertility, Multiple sclerosis, organ transplantation, muscular dystrophy, spinal cord injury etc.
