Globular Plasma Proteins

Globular proteins are otherwise called as spheroproteins they constitute one of the protein classes with the other classes being the fibrous and membrane proteins. Globular proteins are spherical proteins of which some are water soluble not like the fibrous or membrane proteins. The proteins including globin fold is referred more specifically by the term globin. The pale yellow liquid component of the blood that holds the blood cells in whole blood in suspension form is the Blood plasma. About 55% of the body’s total blood volume is made up by the blood plasma. It contains dissolved proteins of about 6-8% such as serum albumins, globulins and fibrinogen. It also consists of glucose, clotting factors, electrolytes, hormones, and carbon dioxide. Blood plasma also serves as protein reserve of the human body and it plays an important role in balancing the electrolytes and protecting the body from infections and other blood disorders. Globular proteins can act as enzymes, messengers, transporters, stocks of amino acids and structural proteins compared to fibrous proteins which only play a structural function. Hemoglobin is the most known globular protein which is a member of globin protein family. Immunoglobulins, alpha, beta and gamma are the other globular proteins.
