Scope and Importance:
Area of agronomy involves selective breeding of plants to produce the best crops under various conditions. Plant breeding has increased crop yields and has improved the nutritional value of numerous crops, including corn, soybeans, and wheat. It has also led to the development of new types of plants. For example, a hybrid grain called triticale was produced by crossbreeding rye and wheat. Triticale contains more usable protein than does either rye or wheat. Agronomy has also been instrumental in fruit and vegetable production research.

Major farming products include Rice, Wheat, Potatoes, Sorghum, Tea, Cotton, Oil seeds, Chick peas, livestock and fishing. China produces food for around 20% world’s population. China greatly increased agricultural production through organizational and technological improvements. Today, China is both the world's largest producer and consumer of agricultural products. The most important challenge facing by china now-a-days is Inefficiencies in the agricultural market. It is the largest importer of soybeans and other food crops.
