Hospital Associated Infections(HAI) or infections arising as a result of admission and treatment in a hospital can be one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality in hospitalized patients. the risk of infection can never be completely eliminated and some people have a higher risk of acquiring an infection than others.. Intensive care units (ICU) have the highest prevalence of hospital-acquired infections in the hospital setting. Hospital-acquired infections are caused by viral, bacterial, and fungal pathogens; the most common types are bloodstream infection (BSI), pneumonia, urinary tract infection (UTI), and surgical site infection (SSI).
The Healthcare Infection Society (HIS) is a charity (no. 286064) whose objectives are to advance knowledge of, foster scientific interest in and disseminate information about the prevention and control of hospital and other healthcare associated infections, to medical and allied professionals for the benefit of the public.
