Scope and Importance:

A cardiac surgery residency typically comprises anywhere from six to nine years (or longer) of training to become fully qualified surgeon. Cardiac surgery training may combined with thoracic surgery or vascular surgery and called cardiovascular or cardiothoracic or cardiovascular thoracic (CVT) surgery. Cardiac surgeons may enter a cardiac surgery residency directly frommedical school, or first complete a general surgery residency followed by a fellowship.
