5 Basic Phases of Project Management

The process of directing and controlling a project from start to finish may be further divided into 5 basic phases:

An idea for a project will be carefully examined to determine whether or not it benefits the organization. During this phase, a decision making team will identify if the project can realistically be completed.

Project Managers can expect job growth of about 5% from 2012-2022, slower than the average rate of growth expected of all occupations, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The BLS published in May 2012 that the median annual salary among Project Managers was $78,860. The BLS indicated that engineers working for oil and gas extraction companies earned the most money per year, with salaries averaging $126,900. The BLS projects that the employment of Project Managers will likely grow by about six percent between 2010 and 2020, a rate that is slower than the national average predicted for all occupations.
