Gastroenterology

As per available reports about 4 relevant journals, 524 Conferences, 92 workshops are presently dedicated exclusively to gastroenterology and about 12 articles are being published on gastroenterology.

Gastroenterology is a branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. In the United States, Gastroenterology is an Internal Medicine Subspecialty certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine (AOBIM). Diseases affecting the gastrointestinal tract, which includes the organs from mouth to anus, along the alimentary canal, are the focus of this specialty. Physicians practicing in this field of medicine are called gastroenterologists. Gastroenterology is not the same as colorectal or hepatobiliary surgery, which are specialty branches of general surgery. Hepatology, or hepatobiliary medicine, encompasses the study of the liver, pancreas, and biliary tree, and is traditionally considered a sub-specialty. Gastrointestinal disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. The gut microbiome is the term given to describe the vast collection of symbiotic microorganisms in the human gastrointestinal system and their collective interacting genomes.

Scope and Importance

Gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy is an important method for diagnosing and treating numerous medical disorders. Endoscopes are complex and reusable devices. Understanding infection control in the context of endoscopy is important in reducing the transmission of infection. The reported frequency of transmission of infection during GI endoscopy is extremely low; however, the actual prevalence of infection transmission might be higher.1 Still, little data exists about the absolute risk of endoscopy-mediated transmission of infection from patient to patient. It is difficult to estimate the causal relationship between endoscopy and pathogen transmission for several reasons, such as long latent period, subclinical symptoms, and unrecognized association of infection with prior endoscopy. There might also be unrecognized infections.

Market Analysis

In 2011, the U.S. market for gastrointestinal endoscopic devices was valued at nearly $1.7 billion. The GI endoscopic market includes GI endoscopes, Capsule endoscopy, Biopsy forceps, Specimen and foreign body removal devices, Hemostasis devices, Anti-reflux devices, and Enteral feeding devices.

Within the gastrointestinal endoscopic device market, companies such as Boston Scientific, Cook Medical, Given Imaging, Olympus and Pentax lead the market, among many others. This report provides a comprehensive and detailed analysis of market revenues by device type, market forecasts through 2018, unit sales, average selling prices, market drivers and limiters and a detailed competitive analysis, including manufacturer market shares and product portfolios.
