Clinical PK-PD studies

Pharmacokinetics is a discipline of pharmacology committed to the description of the result of substances administered superficially to a living organism from the time it is administered into the body to the time it is completely eliminated from the body. The substances that are administered include pharmaceutical agents, growth hormones, and toxins.

Pharmacodynamics is the course of study regarding the effect of biochemical and physiological activities of drugs on the body or on parasites inside or external to the body and the mechanisms of drug action and the association of drug concentration and its effect on the body.

PK/PD (Pharmacokinetic/Pharmacodynamic) analysis is a process which includes the two pharmacological disciplines: pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. It combines a pharmacokinetic and a pharmacodynamic model constituent into one set of mathematical expressions which describes the moment of consequent concentration in reaction to the administration of a drug dose.
