Arsenic poisoning

Arsenic poisoning caused by consuming, absorbing or inhaling greater than optimum levels of arsenic. Arsenic is a poisonous metallic element which is present in some integrated circuits and semiconductors in the e-waste. Mainly arsenic poisoning results from drinking contaminated water and Occupational exposures. Due to improper processing of e-waste arsenic may be release to landfill, groundwater, air, soil, dust or food which affects the human health and environment. Chronic exposure to arsenic can lead to various diseases of the skin and decrease nerve conduction velocity and can cause lung cancer. One of the most severe cases of poisoning by arsenic through drinking water was reported in Bangladesh, which the WHO termed as "largest mass poisoning of a population in history." Arsenic poisoning caused heart diseases, stroke, cancer, diabetes, skin problems, chronic lower respiratory diseases, liver diseases, digestion-related issues and complications of the nervous system. Chronic exposure has been linked to vitamin A deficiency and night blindness. Nowadays Arsenic poisoning is a global health problem. Arsenic exerts its toxicity by inactivating up to 200 enzymes, especially those involved in cellular energy pathways and DNA synthesis and repair. Acute arsenic poisoning is associated initially with nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and severe diarrhea. Chronic arsenic toxicity results in multisystem disease which may be lead to death. .
